My journey I've been studying art since grammar school but its taken years to think of myself as an artist. I chose to go to art school because that was where my girlfriend was going. But it was at Alfred University where I truly fell in love with painting. I painted in oils for many years until a friend asked for some abstract acrylics and a new love was born. Now I divide my time between painting figurative oils based on snapshots that I take when I visit cities and abstract acrylics based on snapshots I take in nature or images from Google Earth.
Art for me is an adventure; a playful struggle between paint, canvas, and imagination. I begin with images from nature or simply an idea I want to express and layer the canvas with color and hope, until it reaches that magical tipping point where ghost images, under-paint, and top marks reveal a cohesive image. I scrape, push, blend, and sometimes use my fingers to propel the paint across the canvas.
